3D MEASUREMENTS

What are 3D measurements in the field of metrology?
In the production departments of companies, a wide variety of components are processed daily. The requirements for performance and quality are steadily increasing. This also affects the demands for expertise and service in industrial metrology. In our 3D laboratory, we carefully examine each product submitted to us to analyze whether it meets the design requirements. In particular, our machines check how accurately the features of a real object match or differ from their theoretical nominal value by comparing it to a dimensioned drawing or a mathematical model.

Machines used for three-dimensional measurements:

  • Optical Machines
Optical machines represent the perfect combination of ‘seeing’ and ‘touching’. 3D measurements with optical machines offer immediate advantages such as: a much larger field of view with high image resolution capable of capturing the smallest details, fast and precise tactile 3D measurements, optical measurements for sensitive surfaces, and higher reliability in less time. To achieve precise results, a high-contrast image is necessary. Our machines are equipped with a highly versatile lighting system capable of illuminating shapes, textures, and colors of surfaces with extreme variability.
  • Contact Machines
When the highest precision is required. In tactile metrology, probes scan the surface of components point by point. The types of service can be: single point measurements or continuous scanning technology.

Single Point Measurement:
  • Can handle low production volumes and wide tolerances.
  • Estimates conditions between measuring points through interpolation.
  • Requires frequent repositioning of the probing head.
  • Potentially overlooks significant deviations.
Continuous Scanning Technology:
  • Superior precision over thousands of points.
  • Supports high throughput and is much less prone to errors.
  • High scanning speeds are possible.
  • Time-saving method that directly contributes to higher yield.
Laser Scanning
In our 3D laboratory, laser scanning is performed using a portable CMM arm. This tool offers the operator greater freedom of movement, making it easier to scan even hard-to-reach areas. Scanning products with a laser arm offers high precision, ease of use, and the ability to quickly scan materials with any surface (reflective, black, transparent, or multicolored).

X-Ray Computed Tomography
Industrial computed tomography is a technology that uses X-rays to scan a component both internally and externally in a non-destructive and comprehensive manner, allowing for highly precise analyses and corrections. Our tomography service enables the detection of errors or defects at the early development stage of any product, leading to time and cost savings.
