PRODUCT TESTING

What are product tests?
Product tests encompass all actions aimed at verifying the performance of specific materials or products, as well as their compliance with industry standards. In our laboratory, we specifically conduct salt spray corrosion tests, climate tests, and product tests (particularly tests of locks). All our tests are conducted in controlled environments and/or on specially designed test benches.

What are salt spray corrosion tests?
Salt spray tests are typically conducted to detect discontinuities, pores, defects, and damage in organic and inorganic coatings, as well as for quality control purposes. The tests are conducted according to the parameters outlined in the UNI EN 9227:2023 standard, which includes:

  • The main characteristics of the device used to conduct the test
  • The properties of the chemical solution and how it should be used
  • Three main types of tests: NSS - Neutral Salt Spray, AASS - Acetic Acid Salt Spray, and CASS - Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid Salt Spray.
TECHNE specializes in neutral salt spray tests (NSS) which are applied to metals and their alloys, metallic coatings, conversion coatings, anodic oxide coatings, and organic coatings on metallic materials.

The aim is to qualitatively compare different materials/coatings or to understand the corrosion reaction of the product under test. The test duration ranges from a few hours to several thousand, depending on when the corrosion phenomenon begins. In a special chamber, a corrosive environment is created by spraying a salt solution (5% NaCl) at a temperature of 35°. The products to be tested are placed in this chamber, where their degree of corrosion is evaluated and documented. Often, product tests include intermediate checks necessary to verify the progress of the corrosive action.

What are climate tests?
Climate tests are product tests that verify efficiency and performance under all environmental conditions, even the most extreme. In our laboratories, we test industrial products as well as mechanical and electrical components that may encounter difficult conditions during their life cycle, especially during storage or transportation. All climate tests are conducted in accordance with international standards. We can also perform customized climate tests for specific customer needs. The tests can include temperature and humidity tests and are conducted in a Weiss climate chamber, capable of subjecting the product to thermal cycles with temperature variations from -40 °C to +180 °C and humidity variations from 10% to 95%.

What are acceptance tests?
Product acceptance, particularly of locks and cylinders, aims at obtaining the main industry certifications. Certification ensures product safety.
  • UNI EN 179:2008: Emergency exit devices operated by a lever handle or push pad for use on escape routes.
  • UNI EN 1125:2008: Panic exit devices operated by a horizontal bar for use on escape routes.
  • UNI EN 12209:2005: Mechanically operated locks and latches - Locks, latches, and locking plates.
  • UNI EN 14846:2008: Electrically operated locks and latches.
  • UNI EN 1303:2015: Building hardware - Cylinder locks.
  • UNI EN 12320:2012: Building hardware - Padlocks and padlock fittings.
